Gestures and Words of Comfort for Jesus: Family Reflection Video

Love thy Neighbor  |  Strengthening family unity

Do we think of Jesus as a friend to us?

I was reading in a book that happened to cross my desk about how Marian appearances reflect the traits or appearances of the people Mary appears to. Our Lady has appeared all over the world, but each time her message is tailored to the needs of that time and place.

Jesus appeared to many people throughout his ministry, but we still think of him as this untouchable being. That is why today’s gospel is an important one. We see Jesus as a friend of Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, visiting for dinner, as we invite our friends to do. Jesus came to us not in robes and gold and glory, but from humble beginnings, to live alongside us as a friend.

How is Jesus like a friend to you? What does friendship look like in this way?

Lord, our family prays as friends to you, ready to open our hearts and our homes.
