I recently read an article about couples celebrating 50-plus years of marriage. The room was filled with about 75 couples on the dance floor with a combined 3,521 years of marriage!
I was reminded of that story as I read the Scriptures for today’s Mass.
The long-wed couples described in the article must have taken to heart the words of Isiah today when we heard God say that He would teach us what is good for us and lead us on a path that would bring us contentment and mutual joy. This sustained the lives of those couples.
We also know there are others that Jesus mentions in the Gospel according to Matthew today, who find no purpose in life other than complain. Needless to say, these people do not bring about much joy to their lives.
God is inviting us to be His dance partner! That’s where our joy can be found. He will teach us how to dance and lead us on the dance floor.
