If the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.
When Henry VIII was forbidden to get a divorce from his wife to marry another woman, the men who stood in his way were beheaded and, as we know, the king got divorced in the end anyway. These men, Cardinal John Fisher and Chancellor Thomas More, were servants to the king, but servants to God first.
Each one of us is an extension of Jesus Christ, existing on a spectrum of gifts and talents. We are asked not to be satisfied with mediocrity, to use these gifts for the better. John Fisher and Thomas More were lights that dispelled darkness and their light has been shining ever since.
What ways do we offer ourselves to God so that his light may shine through our lives? Do we try our best to do what is right, even if it does not benefit ourselves?
We pray today for those who are hurt by doing the right thing; that God may lead them and give them strength.
