Do we see what is right in front of us?
I sat next to a man who was texting very slowly, and I asked him if he was very good at working with the iPhone. He said he didn’t even like the phone, but his family members were always on theirs, so he tries to keep up. The man’s family were fine people, but at times, they slipped back into ways of doing things and lost focus on what was important.
In the reading from the Old Testament today, we heard how the Israelites once rescued from slavery, slipped back and lost their focus on God. This is a recurring problem in humanity’s relationship with God. In the gospel today, Jesus is offering the young man a way to further strengthen his relationship with God by reaching out to others. When families gather for prayer today and include the poor in their intentions know that you are also fulfilling the request Jesus made.
How can we be more attentive to those who need us?
