Now is as good a time as any to ask ourselves why we are being asked to fast and what do we hope to accomplish by fasting.
When we choose to fast, we choose to move from putting ourselves first in order that we can become more aware of the needs of others and the world we live in. It requires us to move out of our comfort zone and reach out to people who cannot pay back the favor.
Lent is 40 days; a time to free us up to be the disciples that Jesus is calling us to be. Fasting helps this to happen. The holy season of Lent has just begun. How are you and your family planning to fast and practice discipleship during this gift of Lent? Works of mercy? Feeding and clothing those in need? Let us know in the space below.
Just wanted to note that our entire day of prayer here at the Father Peyton Center – Rosary, Mass and our Holy Hour for Families - has been dedicated to the victims and families of Parkland, FL, where the school shooting happened on Wednesday. Please continue to pray for them with us.
