Stir the flames to keep your fire burning!
After serving in the military, a friend of mine is preparing to serve in a new way- by becoming a seminarian! Now studying philosophy and theology, he still brings the same enthusiasm and gifts to this new vocation as when he was an infantryman in the Army.
This mix of occupations made me think of today’s reading; reminding us that every now and then we need to have the fire of our faith stoked or rekindled. St. Paul reminds us today to stir into flame the gift of God that you have received- He wants us to be inspired not only to receive but to share the transformative power of faith. God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather of power and love and self-control.
How can we follow Christ in both contemplation and movement? Are we constantly stirring our flames of faith?
Let us pass this fire of faith along; to our families, friends, and all that we meet!
