Though she was the mother of Jesus, Mary was still an ordinary woman.
I remember tagging along when my mother visited her friends. They would catch up in Italian and always be there to support each other as friends do. Mary was like most women of her time, but she would be singled out by God for the complete love she held in her heart for him.
Father Peyton wrote that we have all been created by God, as Mary was, and simply “being ordinary puts no barriers in our way.” Mary appears to us time and time again, a reassuring image of God’s grace, just as she visited Elizabeth. It is left to us to open our arms to her miracles.
Are we welcoming Mary’s intercession? Are we prepared for the miracle of Jesus she brings?
Lord, we pray for mothers today, the miracle of life they bring, and that we remain open to Our Holy Mother’s guidance and care.
