Saint Agatha continues to teach us … even though she lived around the year 250.
We heard in today’s reading about the dedication of the temple, that each of us is a house of God. We are unquestionably signs of God’s image. We are to protect and care for our bodies, as they are from God and a house for God.
Saint Agatha, whose feast day we celebrate today, cherished the gift of her body and refused to let it be defiled. Even after enduring great suffering, she teaches us how to love ourselves and honor our bodies. Her memory is still alive and is witness to a life that continues to radiate the love and care she possessed.
As you gather your family for prayer today, be mindful of the dwelling place of faith that God has put into each of our hearts. Pray to Saint Agatha for her intercession to heal those who are suffering in body, mind, and spirit.
Saint Agatha, please pray with us for victims of abuse, exploitation and human trafficking.
