What a blessing to hear the different Scriptures readings during Advent. They lift worried souls. Both Scripture readings on this the Monday of the Second week of Advent are doing just that. In one instance, we have a man who is ill, and others are trying desperately to bring him to Jesus for healing.
The only way to get the man to Jesus was to carry him to the roof of the home where Jesus was, cut a hole in the roof, and lower the man so that Jesus could touch him.
The scene recalled so many heroic examples of people seeking to help other people at this time of the year, bringing food, providing housing, and taking in refugees and migrants.
Our Holy Father invited 12 migrant families to return to the Vatican with him upon his return from Greece, and helped them resettle in Italy. Where is this goodness coming from if not from God?
The question could also be asked, why do we also see reluctance in the world to seek what God has to offer?
The work of bringing others to Christ continues so that all may hear those comforting words spoken by the prophet Isaiah today. God will tell us to be strong, fear not, he is our God. He will strengthen those feeble hands of ours, make firm our weak knees.
A special road awaits us as we travel through this valley of tears. It is a holy way. It exists for those of us with a journey to make. Access to this road was guaranteed us by the action of Jesus on the Cross.
We heard today how people reacted when they witnessed the healing of the man that was brought through the roof and set before Jesus. They were astonished, struck with awe. They said they had seen incredible things.
Jesus continues to wait for us to come into his presence. What joy this anticipation can be for us and yes what incredible things await us.
