Holy lives of inspiration

Can we really change our lives so completely?

Yesterday, we celebrated the life of Saint Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine, who we commemorate today. Many people who struggle with faith, conversion, addictions draw inspiration from St. Augustine. Augustine was brought up a Christian, but a life of loose living darkened his mind. Through the prayers of his mother, and with the preaching of St. Ambrose in Milan, Augustine became convinced that Christianity was the true religion.

For Augustine, it was restlessness in his heart that brought him to a personal encounter with Christ. The God he was seeking was within him. It is the same for each one of us. God continues to send us men like St. Augustine, but also fellow men and women who continue to exhort and encourage us to walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls each one of us into his Kingdom and glory. Augustine thought his conversion would be too late to make his life important, but God is ready to welcome us always.

How has God inspired changes in your life?
