No one wants to be Judas. And yet something washes over me as I read his words, when Jesus speaks of the betrayal He knows is going to happen, “Surely, it is not I.” And I shake my head in disbelief, because it is not Judas I hear, but rather, my own voice.

Recently, I sat in on a discussion on the sacrament of Reconciliation with a group of teenagers. At one point, I locked in on a certain young lady with an expressive face. As the priest explained more about the sacrament, her eyes became big, as questions formed. You could see her mind churning through his presentation.

Most of us are familiar with the adage, “you are what you eat.” Often, that phrase is used by those explaining their decision to change or modify their diets and to pay close attention healthy eating. Other phrases, such as, “your body is a temple of the Lord,” convey the same type of message — encouraging individuals to be aware of not only what they consume, but also bringing the faith-based message of caring for our bodies.
