"I'm just that little shepherd dog," says former radio personality Kevin Matthews, who once ruled the airwaves in Chicago. "If I can get them to God, if I can get them to Christ Jesus, He does the rest. He's the shepherd." Matthews takes a particular route to bringing people to Jesus. First, he urges them to take the hand of His mother. "If I can get all you broken people who need your mom to clean you up," he says, "if I can get them to Mary, she does the rest. And when I say, 'She does the rest,' she sends them to Christ. "We've just got a little conveyor belt happening, and eventually they all get to God, our Father in Heaven." On Oct. 7, for just one night, Fathom Entertainment presents the documentary Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story. It tells the story of just how Matthews came to be what he refers to as "Mary's Roadie."

Catholic Faith | Holy Saturday | Mother Mary
If you’ve ever had to scoop a child in a deep sleep off a couch, you know how hard it is to position them in a way that you can lift them, walk while carrying them, arms limp, head rolling here or there. The bigger your kids get, the harder this feat becomes. So imagine Mary holding the lifeless body of Jesus. Imagine the strength it took to hold the body of her dead, adult son, and not only its physical weight, but also its emotional weight. Mary Has Incredible Strength The Pietà provides us with a grim romantic version of this scene. When you look at the Pietà, you feel the weight of the moment, but you forget the weight of the body. Mary’s face sorrowful, but serene. It’s her right hand, fingers sprawled, which you can almost miss, peeking through under his body, where you glimpse the strength it must have required to keep his body propped up. His head, weighing heavily on her forearm.

Holy Saturday | Holy Week | Mother Mary
Do you have a hope, a dream, a prayer that never seems to come, no matter how hard you strive and ask? Perhaps you want to draw or create art, but the needs of your children come first. Perhaps a dear one has left the faith, and you weep with St. Monica for their return. Or perhaps you long for children, or for freedom from an illness, or one of the many other burdens of the human heart. May I suggest that, like me, you develop a devotion to Our Lady of Holy Saturday?
