There was a television program in the early 70’s called Truth or Consequences.
As in the readings today, there are still people who suffer serious consequences for adhering to the truth. And still others that show a lack of trust and abandon their faith.
How do we acquire trust? The trust that enabled the Maccabees to remain loyal to God … the trust that enable Iraqi Christians to abandon their homeland rather than abandon their faith … for someone who is blind to still trust that the Son of David could take notice of him and reach out to him.
Trusting in God moves us out into action for all the world to see and hear.
After you and your family watch the short video, think of a time when it was difficult to admit you were a Christian or when you chose to act differently than the others around you because you were a Christian. As a family, discuss what gave you the strength? Would it have been easier to “go with the crowd”? What was the outcome of this situation?
