Just as in yesterday’s gospel, where Jesus proclaims that He is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life, today’s gospel of John is often heard at Funeral Masses in the form of the hymn titled: "I Am the Bread of Life." In the hymn, there is a reassurance from Jesus that if we come to Him, we will not hunger, and we will not thirst and that He will raise us up on the last day. Why is it, that so often in life, we can satisfy our physical hunger and thirst, and yet not our deeper needs?

In today’s gospel, we heard Philip say, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." In reading and praying over this gospel, what struck me was Philip’s request to see the Father, to prove that Jesus is who He claims to be - and that will be enough…he even uses the word "us" to show he’s speaking for the group.

A female sharpshooter in Unkraine nicknamed "Charcoal" has been called the modern day "Lady Death," a deadly sharpshooter of World War II. Charcoal has recently become a Ukrainian folk hero for defiantly attacking Russian soldiers while remaining undercover. The young Markswoman fought for several years in the eastern Ukraine front against Kremlin-backed separatists, before shifting to the front line of hostilities, as Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever! On April 27, 2022, we were in Hollywood, celebrating the 75th anniversary of Family Theater Productions. It was attended by many celebrities, friends, and well-wishers of Family Theater Productions. Wow! What an uplifting experience. It is hard to imagine how a simple priest could walk into Hollywood, the capital of cultural influence, equipped only with a positive vision for families. It is harder to imagine how he could influence the A-list stars of Hollywood to promote family spirituality.

Return to the Church | Why pray?
When the court officers brought the apostles in and made them stand before the council of elders, the high priest questioned them. They said the apostles were given orders not to mention Jesus’ name, yet they filled the crowds with their teaching. Peter did not deny their accusation and boldly accused them of being complicit in the death of Jesus. They became infuriated and wanted to put the apostles to death.
