May we learn to be the king’s good servant, but God’s first. When I was a kid, we used to love watching the "The Three Stooges." It's a special genre, the old vaudevillian, exaggerated physical comedy; "The Three Stooges" featuring Moe, Larry, and Curley. The question from today’s gospel, "Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye", always makes me smile and think about that classic show - but also the reality of how I'm doing when it comes to "measuring" my own faults.

Friends, Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., was in many ways a mystic who lived with one foot in heaven and one on earth. On this, the 29th anniversary of his death, I would like to share two simple glimpses into his charism: One is from an incident in 1953 and the second is a testimony from his mentor, Father Cornelius Hagerty, C.S.C., in 1963.
