What’s in a name? I recall the question but did not know its origin until I discovered the line in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliette. In the tragic love story, Juliette was concerned about Romeo’s last name - it was a curse in the mind of her parents. The question was asked, what’s in a name?

One day, a man glances through the newspaper and finds his name in the obituary section. The newspaper had printed his name erroneously. When he regains his composure, he reflects on the newspaper report, which read, “The Dynamite King Dies.” Because he invented dynamite, the obituary also said, “he was the merchant of death.” He began to ask himself, “Is this how I want people to remember me?”

If I were Jesus reflecting on how I was treated in the last week of life on earth, I would have been happy to move on. Now Jesus could mount His throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord. Now is He is seated at the right hand of the Father and now He can take it easy until judgment day.

Holy lives of inspiration | Why pray?
Hearing of Paul and Silas singing God’s praises in jail makes me want to talk about a song I know. A song we all know. It goes: “Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with you.” It is a prayer, of course, but in fact it is a song. There have been thousands of musical settings created to sing it. But none compares to the incomparable sounds that Mary heard though the voice of Gabriel speaking the Words of God Himself!

In 1917, the world was at war and Europe was the battlefield. On the periphery, far from the centers of power, Our Lady chose to reveal her message of peace to three young shepherds in the Portuguese countryside. On another part of that periphery, in rural western Ireland, lived another boy about the same age. He too was being schooled in that message in his poor but happy home as they prayed the Holy Rosary every night.
