Growing up in Quincy, MA, St. Patrick’s Day was a source of great pride. What makes it interesting is that my Dad is of English descent and my Mom, Irish. Fortunately, my Dad embraced not only St. Patrick’s Day but more importantly the Catholic faith that has been an important part of my Mom’s family for generations. So, you can imagine my shock when I learned that St. Patrick wasn’t born in Ireland. And, as incredible as that might be, what if I were to tell you, this patron saint of Ireland was born in Great Britain?

Last night at home I noticed a small piece of paper that had fallen to the floor. As I reached down for the paper, I grabbed it quickly, ready to crumple it and throw it into the wastebasket. But, suddenly, I recognized the simple paper type and type of letters on it. And, so I stopped and read the words from the prophet Ezekiel: "I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you."

My brothers and sisters, each of us, as members of God’s family, is on an incredible journey of faith. Today, we see two points on Peter’s journey. When it comes to traveling from one place to another, I am definitely geographically challenged – before GPS I made countless side trips in my travels, and often wondered if and when I would reach my destination.
