Each name in the Genealogy of Jesus Reminds us of a Story. Matthew begins his Gospel with, “This is the genealogy of Jesus Christ…” - and continues with a long list of names. Matthew must have had a reason for beginning his Gospel with this extensive list. What is the Gospel of Matthew telling us?

We recall our childhood experience of sitting with our parents or grandparents listening to stories of Guardian angels protecting and guiding us, and learning bedtime prayers like this one: Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love, commits me here, ever this day, be on my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen!
