I can just imagine what some people may be thinking when they hear Jesus say that "the last shall be first, and the first shall be last," and also advocating equal pay for a person who only works a fraction of how long other have worked. It just doesn’t make sense. Is Jesus forcing us to think further about the implications of what He said and did?

In his book, The Gospel of Matthew, Pope Francis commented on the passage of the Transfiguration of Jesus saying, "along with Peter, James, and John, we, too, climb the Mount of Transfiguration today and stop in contemplation of the face of Jesus to retrieve the message and translate it into our lives."

Those of you who have children, do you recall when you first tried to encourage them to take their first step? At the beginning, your child may have been content to drag him/herself along the floor reaching out for things, but it was time for him or her to take a stand and walk. All kinds of attempts were made to entice them to come into your arms and then it happened!

Our Holy Cross community in North Easton, MA with its twenty priests and one brother welcomed a new religious superior. He met with us individually asking us about our lives in community, what we expected from him and the big question, “do we have a spiritual director”. I’m sure this question elicited a lot of different responses.
