In every age, Lord, you have been our refuge. Fortunately, we had at least one cheerful reminder in the midst of the pessimistic reading from the Book of Ecclesiastes, and the tyrant who beheaded John the Baptist mocked Jesus, had Him dressed in purple, and returned Him to Pilate for condemnation.

We have moved into the new school year with all its possibilities. We may also feel a little nostalgia for years past. We often remember the past as simpler, easier – even if it wasn’t that simple. We know that life unfolds in relative time. Years fly by, and sometimes we feel “the day will never end.” With new challenges, what’s familiar gives way to uncertainty. Our experience beckons us to move forward; in this way, we test ourselves and deepen our experience of life – realizing who we are becoming. I believe we find God’s Spirit in our longing to grow – grace at work in our lives.

Return to the Church | Strengthening family unity
For grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received. We might ask but just what is meant by this? God has blessed us; God has infused his Spirit within us. Jesus entered our lives at our baptism.

I heard this story from a homilist. “A man died and was admitted into heaven. The Angel gave him a brief tour around the Kingdom. What caught his attention were the numerous pairs of ears hanging all over. So, he asked the Angel, ‘What are those?’ The Angel replied, ‘Those are human ears.’ He asked, ‘But why are they here hanging all over the place?’

Love thy Neighbor | Strengthening family unity
Often I hear: "My faith is between God and me." “My faith is private.” “My faith isn't worn on my sleeve.” “I believe in spending time with God in secret.” Jesus certainly did spend time alone with His Father. He went away to commune with his Father often. However, there is another side to our faith. In today’s gospel, Jesus compares sharing our faith with placing our light on a lampstand (Luke 8:16-18).

Blessed Virgin Mary | Our Lady of Sorrows
The month of September has been dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows since the celebration of her feast day was developed by the Servites (Order of the Servants of Mary) in the 17th century. However, devotion to the Blessed Mother under this title began long before then.
