A purple sky gradually taking on the coral, rose and gold tones of the break of day — what a spectacular sight to behold. Since I was quite small, I have cherished the soft warmth of a sleepy awakening nestled under the protective covers of a new morning. It is where the day before has been put to bed and the new day awaits to be discovered. Hushed stirrings of hope and a renewed resolution to seek a will other than my own. Where my heavenly Father has my undivided attention, and discernment takes shape in the freedom to surrender any preconceived notions of completeness.

I used to panic when Lent would come around worried that I wasn’t “doing” enough. Did I have enough spiritual reading to finish? Did I have enough sacrifices that I was going to make? Did I have a plan to get the whole family involved and make sure they were “doing” enough? I don’t believe that “doing” is really what Lent is all about. It has taken a few years for me to fall into the idea of Lent being a time of “being.” I have to tell myself that what Jesus desires most is for me to simply be with Him.

Right before the Entrance Song began, I felt it and as I looked around, I could see others did too. A strong and clear sense of the Presence of God came over us as thousands of kids from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles were gathered for the Holy Eucharist last Thursday in Anaheim California, at their annual Youth Day.
