As I read about Jesus in the gospel today, walking to Jerusalem with twelve of his disciples, I was reminded of the Band of Brothers: a brotherhood of soldiers on their walk to face the prospect of death and the ravages of war. As Jesus shared his fate with his own band of brothers, I began to ask myself what could be going on in the minds of the twelve? What was their reaction when Jesus told the disciples what was going to happen to Him, and to them?

Love thy Neighbor | Strengthening family unity
In the film Fiddler of the Roof, there is a heart-warming scene in the kitchen, where Teyva (Teev), the Jewish father of three daughters, teases his wife Golde who has been married to him by parental arrangement for over 25 years. "Do you love me?" he asks with a sheepish grin.

Recently, I’ve seen a commercial for a cable TV and the internet provider. It shows two friends moving heavy boxes looking pretty worn out, while their friend who is moving--is sitting comfortably--having a cool drink looking at her phone.

Love thy Neighbor | Strengthening family unity
There is a scene in the movie "Shadow of the Hawk" here a young couple is climbing a mountain with the help of a guide, in a desperate attempt to flee from evil people. At one point, the young woman slumps to the ground and says, “I can’t take another step.” The young man lifts her to her feet and says, “But darling, we must go on. We have no other choice!”

A line in today’s first reading always fascinates me. An angry crowd attacks Paul and drags him out of the city, and stones him, leaving him for dead. But when the disciples gathered around him, he got up and went into the city! Did he dust off his toga and sandals and rush back into the fray? Somehow, the peace of Christ had energized him and filled him with the courage to face down all adversity.
