Reflections of Family and Faith
"The family that prays together stays together." - Venerable Patrick Peyton
Seasonal Reflections | Strengthening family unity
With the coronavirus affair driving things so fast and furiously, we need to stay grounded and rooted, particularly in this season of Lent. I hope you all are finding ways to do that! Come back to peace. Find wisdom! Today I did something that always helps me: a visit to places in what has been my second home since I was 10 years old, Centerville, on Cape Cod, about an hour from where I live.

A family had gathered for a celebration, and one of the younger children, a little boy of three, had just received a cookie for dessert. He relished the sweet, parading through the kitchen with his prized possession. The host family had two playful pups. One of the dogs snatched the cookie! Hello Dear Friends! Thanks for joining us for this time of prayer from the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at the Museum of Family Prayer and the Father Peyton Center in Easton Massachusetts. During this time of Covid 19 restrictions each day at 11:30, Monday through Friday we will be offering a brief homily for the day and we will pray the Holy Rosary. I am Father Jim Phalan, National Director of the Family Rosary. We thank you for joining us, for being prayer partners with us at this time when it is so important that we come together to pray and to support one another, TRUSTING IN THE LORD. Things may be uncertain but we are certain of God’s love and that he always leads – particularly when we carry our crosses – always into new and greater life! Our Holy Mother Mary is always with us, guiding us to Jesus.

This week, our Careful Lent topic of fasting will be a springboard to a reflection on food. Catholics fast on two days in Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Lent begins and ends thinking about eating! Sometimes when we reduce or moderate something we enjoy, it helps us clarify its real value.

I noticed our receptionist was changing the water in a small glass container that appeared to have a floating flower in it. I told her the flower was beautiful, but she added that it also contained a goldfish. It was a birthday gift. She said the old water had become stale and soiled, and that new water would provide new life for her fish.
