.A great blessing of my life has been to have served at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France for 3 years. I returned to reside in the U.S. at the beginning of last year – I’m sure Mother Mary wanted to bring me home during COVID!

The human heart is restless indeed, often leading us down wrong roads. Remember that old country song, “Looking for Love (in All the Wrong Places)”? Another song from the 90’s, “Constant Craving (has Always Been)”?

Seasonal Reflections | Why pray?
Penitence is really about conversion. We are turning towards the Lord and away from what is harmful and sinful. The three disciplines of Lent - fasting, almsgiving, and prayer - are to help us leave behind what separates us from God.

“Lent, are you kidding me?” one might comment. “Haven’t we had enough penance from COVID already?” However, Lent does indeed begin tomorrow – and rather than another burden, it comes as a big help to us now!

February 2021: COVID February. Nevertheless, we approach the anniversary of one of the most extraordinary Divine interventions since the Resurrection. This one, however, happened in dumping grounds on the outskirts of a small town, Lourdes, in the French Pyrenees.

There is a beautiful story Pope Saint Gregory the Great recorded for us about a visit of St. Scholastica to her twin brother, St. Benedict, at his Monastery of Monte Casino. Like him, she was the abbess of a monastery so she could only go occasionally to see him.
