Sister Margaret Kerry offers ideas for families preparing to celebrate our nation's upcoming Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We are witnesses to a remarkable moment in United States history: On June 11, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The founder of my Pauline Religious Family, Blessed James Alberione, recognized that devotion to the heart of Christ was found in the church as early as the first century. To illustrate this, Alberione designed the communion rail at the Temple of St. Paul in Alba, Italy, with two unique gates opening to the sanctuary. The design on one gate is the heart of Paul, and on the other is the heart of Christ. The words, written in Latin, are entwined within an image of the vine and branches: “The heart of Paul is the heart of Christ.” In his letters, Paul reminds us we are called to have a heart that pulses with the heart of Christ (Galatians 2:20).

Family Rosary | Psalms | catholic devotions | pray the rosary
Here is a prayer method that combines a Psalm, a Rosary mystery, and a Canticle. This way of prayer creates a “liturgy of the present moment,” fostering emotional connection, contemplation, and praise throughout daily life. During a visit to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., I picked up a small paperback from Magnificat Press, The Abbey Psalms and Canticles. This booklet inspired me to a new way of prayer. While the Psalms and Canticles prayerfully express emotion in the movement of the human spirit, the Rosary, developed from these, is a prayer of contemplation.

Gifts clear the way for people. (Proverbs 18:16a) As I drove Sister Beata of the Sisters of Life to Boston’s Logan airport it was a perfect time for us to hold a conversation. "Tell me," I asked, “in your work with expectant mothers, what's the key to truly encouraging them?" Sister Beata smiled, "We help them find their 'love gift.’” A love gift, she explained, is the way you show your love. "It's the unique way each of us shows love to the world. Think of it as your spiritual superpower — the special way God designed you to give and receive love."
