There’s a little story about some United States military veterans of Vietnam standing by the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. When asked about his captors in Vietnam, one of them said, “I’ll never forgive them.” His friend replied, “Then it seems that they still have you in prison, don’t they?”

We recently gathered as a family to celebrate our grandson’s transition to his first year of university. There was plentiful food and warm conversation. We are so happy for him as he embarks on this life-changing adventure and can only imagine the level of excitement and anticipation he must be feeling. There have been many life changes since we held him as an infant. Change seems to dominate the landscape of being a family. Those early memories move our hearts.

We just returned from World Youth Day in Lisbon. Our experience was uplifting as it unfolded a radiant tapestry of faith, unity, and inspiration. Under the theme "Mary, Wake up the Youth of the World!" over 1.5 million young souls from diverse corners of our Earth converged in Portugal to renew their commitment to Christ. This event, a beacon of youthful zeal and deepened faith, is a testament to the power of Mary's intercession and to the impact of a faith community united in hope.

“I don’t know what’s going to become of you!” How many parents have said that to their children? Or how many of us have grown up hearing this? Maximilan Kolbe was a naughty child. Whenever Maximilian Mary Kolbe heard this comment, his reaction was, “I prayed very hard to Our Lady to tell me what would happen to me.”

Strengthening family unity | Why pray?
Saint Matthew’s emphasis on Jesus' wondrous deeds enables him to reveal Jesus’ true Messianic identity. In the Old Testament, Moses commanded the sea with his rod; Joshua with the Ark of the Covenant; Elisha with the prophet's mantle, but Jesus calms the Sea of Galilee with His Word.
