Seventy-five years ago yesterday, 36-year-old Father Patrick Peyton arrived in New York City to rehearse for a radio program to be aired the next day on 300 Mutual Network affiliate radio stations. As Father Peyton and his assistant, Father Woods, inspected the stage, Father Woods said, “It looks rather bare.”

April, the month of the Eucharist, was allowed by God to be a month of fasting from His Precious Body and Blood. And now in May, the month of Mary, we seem to be close to the end of our Eucharistic fast. It is appropriate that in the month Our Mother is celebrated, she brings us to her Son. Her ever-standing mission, bringing us to God.

As I prayed with today’s readings, I was drawn to the last part of the first reading, the part where it says, “And when they arrived, they called the Church together and reported what God had done with them and how He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.”

Return to the Church | Strengthening family unity
Tomorrow we celebrate Our Lady of Fatima, the most well-known Marian feast of this “Month of Mary.” The message from Fatima is a great message of hope. Yet a hope that is not naïve to real challenges that we must face together with the Lord.
