Reflections of Family and Faith
"The family that prays together stays together." - Venerable Patrick Peyton
If I were to ask you who is the most powerful woman in the world today, you might be tempted to think about women who are political leaders, Fortune 500 executives, pop stars, etc. But the last words spoken by Father Peyton before he went home to God, “Mary, my Queen, my Mother,” provide us with the correct answer; it is Mary, Our Blessed Mother.

Many young Indians, especially from the IT field, immigrate to the US and other countries in search of jobs and to build a bright future. But a few young Indians leave their high-profile jobs in multinational companies abroad and return to India to take up something creative and fulfilling.

Gospel of Mark | Jesus | Life Lessons
I’ve often struggled to make sense of Mark’s account of Jesus and the Canaanite woman who falls at his feet asking for Him to cure her daughter (Mark 7: 24-30). And Jesus’s response? “Let the children be fed first. For it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” The quick-witted and perhaps desperate Greek mother flips it back on Jesus “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.” What a comeback! Jesus applauds her faith and wisdom, telling her that her daughter is healed.

Marriage | family life | sacrament of marriage
Certain things in life are easy. Finishing off that pint of ice cream. Scrolling through your Facebook feed. Giving the kids screen time so they’ll stop asking you five million questions. Clearly, these are choices along the path of least resistance. Most days, they take zero effort or thought. And then there’s your marriage: the foundation of the vocation chosen by God. There’s no easy button for prioritizing the covenant you entered before God and your loved ones.

Legend has it that when Napoleon Bonaparte conquered a new land and entered into battle, he ordered his troops to burn their ships. As far as Bonaparte was concerned, retreat, withdrawal or surrender was not an option on the table. They were there to conquer and stay. History narrates that in 1519, Captain Hernán Cortés landed in Veracruz, in the Gulf of Mexico, to begin his great conquest. Upon arriving, he ordered his men to burn the ships. There was to be no possibility of turning back.

Power of Forgiveness | forgiveness | healing through forgiveness | homily
There’s a little story about some United States military veterans of Vietnam standing by the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. When asked about his captors in Vietnam, one of them said, “I’ll never forgive them.” His friend replied, “Then it seems that they still have you in prison, don’t they?”
