The Nativity

Today, a light has shone upon us, for the Lord is born for us. This is truly a holiday booster maybe not as colorful as the article I read, about the long lines of giddy kids in candy-striped pants, toddlers in holiday shirts adorned with tiny Christmas trees, kids wearing thick Irish sweaters, moms and dads, cradling paper cups of hot coffee waiting the for arrival of the jolly, white-bearded man in black boots and red velvet suit.

My father was a quiet man and he didn’t talk much of his parents, but I knew they were what we called typical "Boston Irish Catholics" and good working class people. When my mother spoke of her mother, Alice, it was in praise of her holiness and faith.

Finding Hope in the Healing Power of God - Family Reflection Video

God's justice, compassion, and healing power can do amazing things, big and small, if you let Him in, if you invite Him into your life. This week, I had two writing deadlines due the same day. The first was today’s homily, and the second was a family Christmas letter. As I prayed and reflected on the tasks at hand, I had an inspiration for how to approach a Christmas letter in these unusual times.

A Joseph Garden

I was asked to share my thoughts on Mary Gardens. I never had a Mary Garden. I desired to have one but instead had to be content with having a Joseph Garden.
