Behold Your Mother | pray the rosary | seasons of motherhood
Today we will pray the Fourth Joyful Mystery: The Presentation of the Lord. Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. They travel in obedience to the Law but also in reverence for the gift of the Child-Messiah they are privileged to raise as their own. They are humble in offering their precious Child back to God, full of trust and love.

Lately, I’ve been seeing an ad on TV that ends with the phrase: “He gets us.” The He is Jesus. Today’s gospel is proof that Jesus “gets” us, for it begins: “Do not let your hearts be troubled …” Jesus knows that more often than we’d like to admit or sometimes even think about … our hearts are troubled.

Today we will pray the Third Joyful Mystery: The Nativity. A lot of anxiety surrounds the delivery of a new baby. Whether this is our first pregnancy, our third, or our eighth, different variables make it impossible to know for certain what is going to happen in the delivery room.

Today we will pray the Second Joyful Mystery: The Visitation. I imagine that the barrage of questions asked of a typical mom-to-be reached Mary’s ears throughout her pregnancy. It can certainly be draining. If folks are not asking questions, they have at least been looking at your growing stomach since their first suspicions of your pregnancy.

Holy lives of inspiration | Learn more about our faith
For centuries, only four apostles were honored with special feasts in the Catholic Church: Saints Peter and Paul, Saint John the Evangelist, and Saint Andrew, the brother of Peter. June 29 was the day to remember the remaining apostles. But in the sixth century, the bodies of Saints Philip and James were brought to Rome from the East, where they were initially buried. Having arrived together at the same location, both apostles share a feast day.
